We reviewed every serious chair on the market before selecting the Collins Commander Series. The decision came down to three things: comfort under a long service, mechanical reliability under daily use, and presence in the room.
The Commander is a heavy, deliberate piece of American barbering furniture. It does not look like equipment; it looks like a piece of furniture that happens to recline.
A guest cannot articulate why one chair feels like an armchair and another feels like a dentist's office. He simply knows.
Comfort as a service standard
A full LUX appointment can run past an hour — cut, hot towel, shave, finish, and a drink. Any deficiency in a chair reveals itself at minute forty.
The Commander's seat depth, arm height, and recline geometry were built for exactly that duration. It is the difference between a guest checking his watch and a guest closing his eyes.
What it says about the shop
Chairs are the loudest quiet signal a barbershop sends. They tell a guest, before a word is spoken, how seriously the owners take his hour.
